Austin (part 2)

Thursday Nov 17:
we headed out kind of early into downtown Austin.

our first stop was at the Stevie Ray Vaughan memorial on Lady Bird Lake.

next we headed to the state capital..

state senate..
you see the Star everwhere...

on the ceiling.
 on the back of chairs.
 on the floor.
on door knobs.

on the gates..

 beautiful door hinges..
I waited in the Governor's reception for him to show up but he must have been out campaigning!

they have these small cars.. we think they are like bicycles in other cities, where you can rent them right off of the street! keys are in the car.

we walked around the downtown area then went to lunch at Guero's Tex Mex.  we had a tamale and guacamole to start.  both were wonderful..  the tamale was moist and very favorable. the guac was perfect.  Eric had the Al Pastor taco, (pork) on hand made corn tortillas that were sooo good. I had the steak taco on flour torts.  fabulous.  it was recommended to us by Andy to go there.  It was so good we thought about repeating!  (if you know us well you know we do not repeat).  the beans were the best and even the rice was very good.  I am not a fan of Spanish rice but this was so good I cleaned my plate.

After lunch we headed to the University of Texas Austin

we went to the LBJ Presidential Library and Museum.  we did not get any photos.  It was really good, much better than I expected.  worth the time to go if you are in Austin.

dinner was Ice Cream: Eric had Ben & Jerry's Cherry Garcia. Hagan Das Chocolate for me.

tomorrow we head about 150 miles south.  we are getting closer to our destination!
